Online learning and teaching platform Udemy has appointed Irwin Anand as the company’s India Managing Director effective immediately. Anand’s responsibilities include opening Udemy’s first India office, growing the local team, and deepening the company’s investment in the region.

As India is one of the company’s fastest growing markets, with revenue and students doubling year-over-year, Anand will be also focused on further localizing the Udemy student and instructor experience in India.

Before joining Udemy, Anand was the Chief Operating Officer at OLX India, a marketplace for pre-owned goods, jobs, and real estate where he led initiatives across marketing, product and technology, customer experience, monetization strategy, and advertising.

Before OLX, Anand led business development for Yahoo! India where he built mobile distribution partnerships and was a key influencer in local product roadmaps. Anand holds an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and B.E. Engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

“On behalf of the whole Udemy team, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Irwin,” said Gregg Coccari, Udemy CEO. “With a mission to improve lives through learning, Udemy sees a big opportunity to bring a more localized experience for our students and instructors in India. Irwin has the right experience to help us extend the benefits of our learning platform to students, companies, and governments alike.”

“It is an exciting time to join as Udemy is already on a huge growth trajectory bringing learning opportunities to millions around the world,” said Irwin Anand, Udemy India Managing Director. “I look forward to working with the team, building our local operations, and making education available to even more people and in all corners of India.”
