In a move to consolidate the weaker sections in the general society, the Maharashtra Government has approved the implementation of 10% reservation in educations institutions and government jobs. 

Job applicants in this category will receive a benefit of 10 percent quota in government jobs and the state-run corporations, semi-government institutions, local urban civic and the rural civic bodies.

A General Administrative Department (GAD) official pointed out that the 10 percent reservation will be separate from the existing quota of 52 percent for the Scheduled Castes (SCs), the Scheduled Tribes (STs), the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), the Special Backward Class (SBCs) and the Nomadic Tribes (NTs). 

Commenting on the decision, Maharashtra’s Minister of Finance and Planning, Sudhir Mungantiwar said, “The 103th amendment of the Central Government will also benefit the State and 10% reservation has been approved for financially vulnerable sections of society for entry in Government services and educational institutions.” 

The benefit of this decision has come to an effect from February 1st, 2019.
