IT major Infosys has hired more than 7,000 American workers in the last 18 months as part of its plan to hire nearly 10,000 Americans to give a strong fillip to digital innovation for US enterprises.

The Bengaluru based firm also opened its technology and innovation hub in Hartford, Connecticut this week. The hub would help work more closely with its clients in the region and will serve as the global Hub for its InsurTech and HealthTech efforts. The facility will feature Living Labs for insurance, healthcare and manufacturing sectors among other things.

Pravin Rao, Infosys COO, stated, “The inauguration of our Hartford Technology and Innovation Hub is an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to help American enterprises revitalize their core businesses. This Hub, along with five other hubs around the country, will help us to seamlessly collaborate with our clients to develop agile, cross-functional digital solutions to today’s most pressing business needs.”

These expansion efforts a part of the IT major’s plans announced last year wherein it announced that it will set up four technology and innovation hubs and hire about 10,000 locals in the US over two years. In April this year, it had announced that it would open its US Education Centre in Indianapolis, which would train American workers and create an additional 1,000 jobs.

The centre is expected to create over 1,000 jobs in Hartford. This month, the Bengaluru-headquartered IT service company also announced that it will set up an innovation hub in Australia. As a part of this, the company is aiming to create 1200 jobs in Australia by the end of 2020.

These centres come as Infosys has made localization one of the company’s four main tasks in its three-year strategic plan in a bid to adapt to tightening immigration policies as well as meet a growing demand from clients for local professionals.
