Facebook has trained 1 Mn people in India with digital skills

Considering India to be one of its largest market, Facebook aims to train 5 Mn people with digital skills by 2021.
Facebook has trained 1 Mn people in India with digital skills

With 10 ongoing programs, Facebook has already trained one million people across 150 cities and 48,000 villages with support from 50 partners. Now, it further wants to invest in the development of digital skills and aims to train five million people to help them use digital media to expand their business and access global markets.

"Facebook is committed to enabling small businesses to reach the global economy, and we are partnering with various organizations to reach out to people. We are committed to training 5 million people with digital skills and global market access by 2021," said Ankhi Das, Facebook Public Policy Director (India, South and Central Asia).

The US-based social media giant has taken upon itself to empower local entrepreneurs with digital skills so that they can grow their business. Some of these efforts, where the users are trained on using Facebook and photo-sharing platform, Instagram to build their business are being organized under Facebook's Community Boost program. The training modules for businesses in digital marketing and online safety developed by Facebook are available in 14 local languages and the company's initiatives have reached 29 states in India and have received strong response in states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Odisha and Rajasthan among others. 

In July, Facebook also partnered with NSDC to empower youth with digital skills. In September, DSCI and Microsoft also roll out a CyberShikshaa program to foster talent. Previously many companies like Intel and Reliance have also designed programs to help train people in digital skills. Initiatives like these by some of the leading brands across sector reflects how digital skills today is the focus area for businesses. 

Digital is the new normal and has become the way of doing things. From selling its products and services to recruiting and retaining talent, digital methods are being utilized in almost every business function. However, the majority of the people still lack digital skills to be able to leverage these methods and available digital resources. It is only through learning programs like these that people will be able to build the required digital skills. Besides initiatives taken by companies and government, each an every individual should also take charge of their own development and try and make most of these available programs and initiatives.
