Bhubaneswar tops the list of Tier II cities in job creation

A study conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) reveals that Bhubaneswar tops the list of Tier II cities in job creation in the country. The study "Current Job Trends in India", took into account 17 major Tier II cities of the country, reflected that Bhubaneswar recorded 42.2% in employment generation followed by Pune with 19.7%

A study conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) reveals that Bhubaneswar tops the list of Tier II cities in job creation in the country. The study "Current Job Trends in India", took into account 17 major Tier II cities of the country, reflected that Bhubaneswar recorded 42.2% in employment generation followed by Pune with 19.7%
The study involved evaluating employment prospects in 56 major cities, including Tier I, II and Tier III cities across 32 sectors from a sample of over 6.5 lakh employment opportunities during the last fiscal.
Chandigarh ranked third amongst other Tier II cities with a growth of 12.2 %, followed by Lucknow with 10.8% and Surat 8.8% share in total job creation.
Other Tier II cities which experienced a temperate rise in employment generation are Jaipur with 6.68 %, Vishakhapatam at 5.5 %, Indore at 4.33 %, Nagpur at 4%, Kochin at 3.35%, Ludhiana at 3.28%, Bhopal with 2.21%, Amritsar at 2.13% and Gwalior at 2 %.
While releasing the report ASOCHAM National Secretary General D.S. Rawat commented, "With tier I cities getting congested and costlier by the day tier II and III cities have grabbed the lion's share of 61.8 % in aggregate job creations during the last fiscal, this surely gives a signal of changing trends.” He also added that, "Hiring has been more prominent across all key industry sectors during the past year and with a view to rebuild their staff strength companies are gearing up for an optimistic 2011-12.”
