Monster Employment Index India Rises 14% Year-over-Year

The Monster Employment Index India, a monthly gauge of online job demand based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career web sites and online job listings across India, reveals that India continues to exhibit a positive momentum in the annual growth driven by sustained hiring activity in all major industry sectors like IT-Hardware, Software; and Oil/Gas/Petroleum, Power. Says Sanjay Modi, Managing Director (India/ Middle East/ South East Asia), Monster.com, “Consumer-driven sectors like hospitality/ travel and retail have also noticeably expanded compared to a year ago.”
With 26 of the 27 industry sectors registering a positive annual growth, the year-on-year growth rate registered during the month of August 2011 was pegged at 14 percent. Media & Entertainment, Oil/Gas/Petroleum & Power and IT-Hardware, Software exhibited strong growth in online job with respective annual growth rates of 47, 37 and 27 percent. Printing/Packaging was the only sector to have registered a negative annual growth rate of 13 percent. In terms of geographical location, Kochi was the leading city in online job growth in all parameters. The annual growth momentum improved 15 percentage points over the previous month.
