Prioritising well-being in a VUCA world

From fostering emotional support to promoting work-life balance and holistic health, organisations are setting benchmarks for creating inclusive, supportive, and balanced work environments.

In the evolving world of work, the well-being of employees has transitioned from being a secondary concern to becoming a core strategic priority. This shift emphasises not only what employees contribute but also how they perform within an inclusive, supportive, and balanced environment. Organisations like AstraZeneca, Bacardi, and IKEA are setting examples by embedding well-being into their core values and practices.

At Bacardi, for instance, says Radhika Tomar, Director-HR India and South-East Asia employees are referred to as Primos and Primas, reflecting the family-centric values guiding their employee engagement approach. This ethos is further demonstrated through a series of innovative and impactful well-being initiatives.

Emotional and practical support

“Bacardi has rolled out a suite of global programs aimed at fostering holistic well-being for its employees. Under our ‘Bacardi Assist Program’ 24/7 emotional and practical support including counseling, therapy, stress-reduction programs, life coaching, and cognitive behavioral therapy are offered to employees and their families,” says Radhika Tomar, Director – Human Resources, Bacardi India & South-East Asia.

“Legal and financial advice, dependent care support, and daily life services like home repair and relocation support are other services offered to our employees,” adds Tomar.

Focus is on planning and time management

Recognising the link between operational efficiency and employee well-being, organisations like IKEA are implementing practices that reduce stress and promote a better work-life balance, says Parineeta Cecil Lakra, Country People and Cultural Manager, IKEA India.

Parineeta adds that employees have access to their work schedules four weeks in advance, enabling better personal planning and time management. A proactive approach encourages employees to plan downtime to recharge and rejuvenate.

Well-being as a strategic imperative

In today's fast-paced and digitally connected world, AstraZeneca recognises employee well-being as a strategic imperative, aligning their programs with the evolving needs of their people. “We prioritise physical, social, and financial well-being through comprehensive offerings such as mental health tools, fitness challenges, financial planning, and hybrid work models. These initiatives not only enhance employee satisfaction, with over 90% positive feedback, but also drive resilience, innovation, and sustainable business success,” says Amarpreet Kaur Ahuja, Country HR Director, AstraZeneca India.
