InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which operates IndiGo, has appointed former Air India Express managing director Aloke Singh as its Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), as the airline undertakes a broader leadership transition.
Singh will assume the role from April 6 and will lead long-term strategic planning and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, the company said in an exchange filing, as reported by CNBC-TV18.
Leadership reset under way
The appointment comes at a time when India’s largest airline by market share is navigating changes at the top. Former chief executive Pieter Elbers stepped down earlier this month, prompting a reshuffle across the senior leadership team.
Singh will initially report to Managing Director Rahul Bhatia and later transition to reporting to the incoming chief executive once a successor is appointed.
The move signals a structured effort to stabilise leadership and strengthen strategic direction during a period of organisational change.
A veteran hand for a complex phase
Singh brings more than three decades of aviation experience to the role. Until last week, he served as managing director of Air India Express, the low-cost arm of Air India, where he oversaw operational improvements and expansion over a five-year tenure.
He has also held senior leadership positions at Air India and Oman Air, giving him experience across both full-service and low-cost airline models.
Bhatia said Singh brings “an exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth”, adding that his experience would support IndiGo’s next phase of growth.
Singh described his appointment as coming at a “pivotal moment” for the airline, as it looks to expand globally and strengthen its operations.
Strategy focus amid operational recovery
The leadership changes follow a challenging period for IndiGo, which navigated one of the most significant disruptions in its two-decade history in late 2025. The airline has since stabilised operations and is now focusing on long-term growth and efficiency.
The creation of a strengthened strategy function indicates a shift towards more centralised planning and transformation-led execution, particularly as competition intensifies in both domestic and international markets.
Looking ahead
IndiGo’s ability to align leadership continuity with strategic clarity will be closely watched in the coming months. With a new chief executive yet to be named, Singh’s role is expected to play a key part in shaping the airline’s next phase.
As the company recalibrates its leadership and operational priorities, the emphasis is likely to remain on scaling global ambitions while maintaining cost discipline—a balance that has historically defined IndiGo’s business model.
