Costa Coffee India to hunt for third CEO in under three years as Kamaljit Singh Bedi resigns

Kamaljit Singh Bedi has resigned as chief executive officer of Costa Coffee India, less than a year after taking charge, marking another leadership change at the fast-growing café chain.

Devyani International, the master franchisee for Costa Coffee in India, disclosed the resignation in a regulatory filing under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. Bedi’s resignation will take effect from the close of business hours on December 12, 2025.

In his resignation letter, Bedi said he was stepping down to pursue opportunities outside the organisation. “This decision has been made after careful consideration, owing to personal reasons and my intention to explore new career opportunities,” he wrote, thanking colleagues for their support during his tenure.

Bedi was appointed CEO in January 2025, following the resignation of Sreejit Nair in November 2024. His exit leaves Costa Coffee India searching for its third CEO in under three years, underscoring leadership churn at a time when the brand is expanding rapidly in the Indian market.

Before taking over the Costa Coffee India role, Bedi served as CEO – Institutional Business and New Business Ventures at Devyani International, which also operates brands such as KFC and Pizza Hut across India.

Costa Coffee is present in more than 30 markets globally, with India identified as a key growth geography. In April, Costa Coffee’s global chief executive Philippe Schaille described India as a “top 20 market” for the brand and a critical driver of its international expansion, according to company statements.

Costa Coffee currently operates over 200 outlets in India, opening an average of 40 to 50 new stores each year under the Devyani International portfolio. In May 2025, Costa was named the fastest-growing brand within Devyani’s stable.

Devyani International has not yet announced a successor. The company said further updates on leadership continuity would be shared in due course, as Costa Coffee India continues to scale its footprint in an increasingly competitive café segment.
