JioHotstar recruits senior leaders from Google, Flipkart and Razorpay to power its next phase of AI growth

JioHotstar has hired a clutch of senior executives from Google, Flipkart and Razorpay as it sharpens its artificial intelligence strategy and strengthens its technology leadership.

The moves signal a deliberate push to deepen capabilities across product, engineering, marketing and advertising technology, as competition intensifies in India’s crowded streaming market.

According to Business Today, the company has appointed Shrinivas SG as Senior Vice President – Discovery and Personalisation. He previously served as Director of Product at Flipkart, where he led consumer-facing product initiatives.

Naveen Prashanth has joined as SVP – Consumer Marketing. He has held roles at Google and McKinsey, bringing experience in digital growth and strategy.

On the engineering front, Abhishek Sharan has been named SVP – Engineering (Viewer Experience). He previously worked at Flipkart and Myntra and most recently served as Head of Engineering at SuperMoney. His mandate will centre on platform performance and user engagement.

In advertising and monetisation, JioHotstar has hired Abhishek Varshney as Principal Engineer – AdTech. He has previously worked with Razorpay, CRED and Flipkart.

Additional appointments include Chandramauli Singh, formerly with ShareChat, and Nishant Paliwal, who has worked at Cleartrip, Flipkart and Intel.

The latest hiring round underscores JioHotstar’s focus on AI-led personalisation, discovery and monetisation. As streaming platforms compete for audience attention and advertising revenue, recommendation engines, targeted advertising and data-led viewer insights have become central to growth strategies.

The broader leadership build-out extends beyond this round. According to earlier reports, David Zakkam joined JioHotstar to lead analytics and data strategy, while the JioStar Group appointed Stephen Bugaj as SVP – GenAI Content & Technology to explore generative AI-led content and platform innovation.

India’s streaming sector continues to expand, driven by rising smartphone penetration and digital advertising spend. In that context, technology leadership — particularly in AI and ad-tech — is emerging as a decisive competitive lever.

JioHotstar’s latest hires suggest the company is preparing for a phase where scale alone will not suffice, and differentiated AI capability will determine market leadership.
