Tata Trusts has announced significant changes in its leadership, bringing in new members to guide the future of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trusts, the group’s most prominent charitable organization and a major shareholder in Tata Sons.
In a statement, Tata Trusts said that the board of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) approved the inclusion of Neville Tata, son of chairman Noel Tata, and Bhaskar Bhat, a Tata veteran, as trustees, effective from November 12, 2025, for a three-year term.
This announcement follows closely on the resolution of a prolonged internal dispute, which saw opposing camps—one aligned with Noel Tata and the other with Mehli Mistry, a long-time associate of the late Ratan Tata—contend for influence over the network of trusts that together control 66% of Tata Sons.
The SDTT holds the largest stake in Tata Sons, with nearly 28% of the conglomerate's shares, spanning industries from salt to software.
The Board also revised the appointment of Venu Srinivasan as Trustee for a period of 3 years with effect from 12th November 2025, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and to designate him as Vice Chairman of SDTT, Tata Trusts said.
A recent change in Maharashtra government policy now prohibits lifetime appointments for trustees, limiting Srinivasan’s tenure to a three-year term.
