Kerala moves to place 600 laid-off CorroHealth employees in new IT jobs

Kerala has announced a coordinated plan to help 600 employees laid off by US-based healthcare technology company CorroHealth secure new roles across the state's IT sector.

The initiative follows discussions between Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty and the Group of Technology Companies (G-Tech), an industry association representing IT companies.

According to the state government, eligible employees will be considered for vacancies at G-Tech member companies based on their qualifications, while workers requiring additional skills will receive training in emerging technologies.

Dedicated recruitment platform to support displaced workers

As part of the agreement, G-Tech will establish a dedicated recruitment platform exclusively for employees affected by the CorroHealth layoffs.

The platform will allow displaced workers to upload their professional profiles, enabling G-Tech member companies to identify candidates for available positions based on their experience and qualifications.

The initiative is intended to speed up the re-employment process while helping companies access experienced technology professionals already available in the state's talent pool.

Hiring support to be backed by reskilling

The discussions also resulted in an agreement to provide skill development opportunities for employees whose capabilities need to be aligned with current industry requirements. Key elements of the initiative include:

  • Priority hiring opportunities across G-Tech member companies
  • A dedicated recruitment portal for affected CorroHealth employees
  • Reskilling programmes in new and emerging technologies for under-skilled workers
  • Candidate selection based on qualifications and industry requirements

The agreement was reached during talks involving G-Tech Chairman Jijo John and Secretary Ronnie Sebastian.

Government links initiative to GCC ambitions

Speaking at a press conference, Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty said the state government is placing greater emphasis on attracting Global Capability Centres (GCCs) as part of its broader employment strategy.

He said a new GCC policy will be introduced soon, with the objective of creating more employment opportunities for young professionals in Kerala.

According to the minister, expanding the state's GCC ecosystem is expected to help address employment challenges by attracting more technology and knowledge-based investments.

Wider economic concerns remain

Alongside the employment announcement, Kunhalikutty said Kerala's public sector companies are facing a severe financial crisis.

He also reiterated the need for the government to issue a white paper outlining the financial position of public sector enterprises.

The remarks place the CorroHealth response within the broader context of Kerala's efforts to strengthen employment opportunities while addressing wider economic challenges.
