The Labour Commissioner’s Office in Pune has issued formal summons to Tata Consultancy Services in multiple cases alleging illegal terminations and unlawful layoffs, according to an announcement posted by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) on X.

The union said the hearing has been scheduled for 18 November 2025 before the Government Labour Officer. Photographs of the summons, posted alongside the statement, show notices addressed to TCS representatives and list matters filed by affected employees.
NITES said the summons follow several months of petitions concerning what it described as coerced resignations, abrupt job cuts and violations of due-process requirements under labour law. The union said the cases had been filed individually by former employees, with NITES providing documentation and assistance.
In its post, the organisation said it has raised concerns repeatedly about the treatment of mid- and senior-level staff and has pressed labour authorities to intervene. “Over the past several months, NITES has been supporting multiple employees who have alleged illegal termination of employment and unlawful layoffs,” the union said.
The notices issued by the Labour Commissioner’s Office indicate that TCS must appear before authorities to respond to the allegations. The documents list multiple complainants and cite provisions requiring employers to follow statutory processes before carrying out retrenchment or separation actions.
The X post did not include a response from TCS, and the company has not commented publicly on the summons.
The development escalates ongoing tensions between the union and India’s largest IT services employer, which has faced scrutiny this year over workforce restructuring and the handling of mid-career exits. The outcome of the 18 November hearing is expected to shape next steps in the dispute and could influence how labour authorities approach similar complaints in the IT sector.
