Need for a mindset change
For HR to transform, there is need for a change in mindset before focusing on HR’s capability in the new era. HR needs to come out of the mindset issue, that managing payroll will give them ‘power’. For HR to become strategic, it needs to earn the respect and trust from the CEO, leadership team and colleagues. HR must earn its seat at the strategy table not demand.
What many call commodity hiring is an important point for HR to review. Whether hiring (mass and low levels included) is strategic or not, depends on the business context. For example, initial hiring of nurses is business critical in the healthcare sector.
