Axis Bank has announced a special hiring initiative for housewives called ‘HouseWorkIsWork’ encouraging women of all ages and sexualities to apply to jobs for their human resources function.

“We encourage women of all ages to apply. If you identify as a man whose sex assigned at birth is female or are a woman whose sex assigned at birth is male, you could also apply,” says the post on the bank’s career page.

To start with, the private sector bank is looking to hire for 15 positions in their drive.

“If you are a woman who has taken a break for pursuing a personal ambition or to attend to a family emergency or for being there for your loved ones – it is still an investment to personal growth. We learn as much from life in its everydayness, as we do in schools, colleges and other sanctuaries of knowledge,” the post says.

A minimum qualification of graduation from a recognised institute is a requisite for applying for the position. The company requires the candidates to possess good communication (verbal and written), ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines. interest and proficiency in being a team player and should have compatible mobile device with a required Android/ iOS version

“We encourage you to not undervalue your commitments and achievements and actually make them count as a work in the corporate lexicon. For example : Why can’t  teaching children be counted as “Head – Learning and Development” on the resume. Or managing a variety of jobs be counted as “Diversity Equity and Inclusion,” it added.

The thought of starting the initiative came when the company received an innovative resume from a housewife in which she included the work she did at home as an important experience.
