Established in 1991, Shoppers Stop is among India’s largest retail chains. Since its inception, it has witnessed immense growth leading to an increase in the number of the outlets and the workforce. One of the most popular development programs in the company is called “Baby Kangaroo” comprising a nationwide assessment centre of all front-end customer care associates completing two years in the system. These assessments are carried out using various scientific tools like online tests, group discussion, role plays, in basket exercises and interviews conducted by internal but neutral assessors. The associates who are selected after these assessments are put through a rigorous 32-day training program designed for their first time managers. This 32-day program is followed up by a nine-month on-the-job training and a shadow stint with seasoned managers in the stores. Post successful completion of their nine-month stint, they are designated as “Department Managers” and allocated a department to manage.
The company launched an initiative called “I Pledge-Our Values” in 2012 and conducted a nationwide tour, culminating into the creation of a book and making it to the Limca Book of Records.
