Established 33 years ago, NMIMS has created a significant benchmark in management education in the country. More than 60,000 students applied for a 600 students’ batch this year. With the number of applications consistently increasing year on year, the institute remains a preferred choice amongst aspiring candidates who have to go through the NMAT (NMIMS’ own entrance examination) or GMAT to get admissions.
The institute focuses a lot on its learning delivery, providing a right mix of academic and industrial exposure to its students and faculty. Special sessions facilitated by industry experts take place almost every day and alumni actively mentor students. About 60 per cent of faculty possess PhD and the rest have a rich industry experience. To encourage new and contemporary pedagogy, the institute focuses on providing immense global exposure to its faculty through world-class trainings. Fifteen faculty members have been sent to Harvard for training and two more will be sent this year to Harvard and one to London School of Economics.
NMIMS SBM is a Deemed-to-be university. Although it enjoys the flexibility of being a private institute, it will also follow specific university norms and procedures for launching new programs. Each new program/initiative would have to be approved by an academic council. There would be regular audits to ensure transparency and efficiency. In a bid to upgrade its infrastructure, a new building with ultra-modern facilities will be inaugurated this year.
Apart from the regular MBA streams, NMIMS has very unique specialized MBA programs in pharmaceuticals, MBA Entrepreneurship & Family Business and Social Entrepreneurship. As part of the popular MBA course in Entrepreneurship and Family business, the students are sent for an international tour for three weeks in a year. Around 20-30 students (number varying each year) are sent to international institutes in Germany, France etc. through exchange programs. Students from these countries/ respective universities also come here for increased exposure and have to go through a rigorous process of selection for being a part of these exchange programs. The institute offers special programs for working professionals like weekend programs and tailor- made programs for companies such as Ranbaxy, TCS, Mercedes Benz, Novartis etc.
Following NMIMS’ mission to prepare socially responsible managers along with emphasis on career advancement based placements, the students also undertake certain social activities. Each student spends at least three weeks in the first year with some or the other NGO to help contribute to social issues like women empowerment, providing education to unprivileged children, raising funds for the poor and some more similar activities.
