Mending what's broken: The 'Kintsugi' HR pledge

How can we use the Japanese art of "Kintsugi" to mend what's broken in our organizations? At People Matters L&D SEA Conference last week, HR and L&D professionals shared their plans and actions for mending flaws with gold.
Mending what's broken: The 'Kintsugi' HR pledge

Kintsugi, or “Golden Mending”/"Golden Journey", is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with lacquer mixed with precious metals. Instead of trying to hide the breakage, it is celebrated as part of the object's history and held up as something beautiful. It is a philosophy of wasting nothing, not even a crisis, and accepting change as a catalyst for continuous improvement. And it isn't just about pottery. Kintsugi is a mindset that can help us mend workplace flaws, turn them into strengths, and celebrate the journey of improvement.

At People Matters L&D SEA Conference last week, we asked HR and L&D professionals to share their own pledges for applying kintsugi to mend what's broken in their organizations. Here are some of the heartfelt commitments they made.
