Emerging recruitment trends in IT

With TCS in the lead, IT companies are increasingly recruiting freshers as a strategy for long term cost effectiveness

As per the analyst firm HfS, 80 percent of the total employees recruited by TCS in the last year have been freshers. This indeed points out to the success of TCS in cutting costs and thereby becoming the second biggest IT firm worldwide.

TCS has tactically reduced the employee costs by an average of 6.3 percent in the last six years. The employee costs of the company as a percentage of revenue is at least 5-10 percentage below the industry average.

Other IT giants are also catching up on such trends considering the success of TCS. Some of the emerging trends among IT companies in terms of recruitment & training are enlisted below:

  1. Hiring Freshers: IT companies have claimed that freshers are easier to train in the new skills required for the model of digital services. Furthermore, the salary rates for fresh graduates have not increased in the last four years remaining constant at 3.15-3.50 lakh per annum.
  2. Mass Recruitment: It becomes cheaper for the companies to train a thousand freshers together than training experienced candidates individually for different domains & areas of expertise.
  3. Digitizing the training: Companies have started implementing e-learning & training models so as to decrease the man-hours that go into training thousands of freshers. This e-training model is faster and helps the trainees become productive within a short span of time, boosting the utilization percentage & company margins as well.

According to industry experts, this fresher-heavy & mid-management-lite model is set to gain more and more traction in the IT industry.
