Jobs for differently-abled in MNCs: No more a far-fetched idea

Differently-abled candidates are being hired increasingly by MNCs not just for CSR but to make business sense too

Job fairs for differently-abled candidates have significantly increased in the last 3 years as we also witness more and more multi-national corporations coming forward to participate in those fairs.

One such job fair is being organized in Ahmedabad this Friday by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Blind People’s Association (BPA). The job fair shall witness more than 20 leading companies participating including TATA Consultancy Services, TATA Motors, Future Group, Arvind Ltd., Apollo Hospitals, etc.

In the past 3 years, such fairs have been largely successful in Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, etc.

Not just many MNCs, even the UN has recognized the need for this and has come forward by launching an exclusive job portal for the differently-abled (www.jobsfordifferentlyabled.in) managed by Indian Federation of United Nations Association (IFUNA) along with Friends of Differently Abled (FODA).

Reputed institutes like British Council and various NGOs have also taken initiatives through various training modules to make differently-abled people employable.

Various retail giants like Future Group, Rasna Ltd., Waghbakri Tea Group, etc. have confirmed the business benefits of employing differently-abled candidates. Organizations like IBM, Standard Chartered, CISCO, etc. have developed special in-house training programs which have reportedly worked out well for them as well as for the candidates.

Companies often claim how differently-abled candidates provide them competitive edge in special roles by adding fresh perspective, sincere dedication & a passion to prove their worthiness.
