Today’s growth mantra: how you do little things is how you will do big things

At Tech hr 2018 organized by People Matters, the audience got the opportunity to interact with Shagun Kumar, Managing Director India, TMF Group who shed light on growth mantras and how certain small but good things can be overlooked. However, reaching the grass root of any problem and working step by step, making small changes is essential for these elements to be sustainable and produce a long-term yield. He spoke about how the market is changing globally, and the impact can be seen in every aspect of the economy.

Shagun states "Today's growth mantra is growing globally and bringing about required changes in a profession." Brands need to ensure they provide the same level of experience and treat each employee equally rather than focusing on just expansion. In order to create global brand names, organizations need to chart out policies that are clearly defined and HR is the key to managing people and have them ready to deal with a crisis at all times. He says "HR has now moved from managing employees to being a key decision maker." Organizations and management have shed the pretext of HR being just a backend functionality team and is now considered to be at the core of most of the decision-making process." However, to ensure the best output in every department HR has to become agiler, think out of the box and if need be fit into someone else's shoe to understand the depth of the dilemma and uproot the enigma.

Advancement in technology has led to an abundance of data and knowledge. With the help of data HR now has access to massive insights that can help understand and create a better work-life. However, this can also confuse and led to oversights. "The most important thing to remember is a massive amount of energy means power yet it can be a scary thought," says Shagun. Do not let access to all the knowledge and data overpower you. Use data that would help improvise your workforce and would merge well with organizational value and your work culture. Data is just a helping hand in improvising lives for all and understanding areas of improvement and hence, should be used wisely.

Just like Vincent Van Gogh had stated "Great things are done by a series of small things brought together" Shagun says that we more than often overlook these small changes and effort that deliver great changes and become beneficial for the organization. He says “Enjoy the small things as tomorrow when you look back you will realize that those small things were good and big things that changed lives.” Various teams and the members form an organization, and it is essential to treat everyone equally, and policies have to define for all fairly as these small yet crucial teams help smooth functionality of organizations. Overall Shagun says that he has had certain experiences that have made him realize that HR globally are now more involved in making work a better place and technology has enabled the availability and accessibility of solution anytime.
