Whether it is Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality, or mobile- technology is sweeping through all aspect of our lives. Hence, it should come as no surprise that technology is impacting the way organizations acquire and manage talent.

HR leaders around the world are under constant pressure to innovate. For this to happen, they need to understand the impact of new and emerging technology on HR, and then make the right HR tech decisions for their business. This mammoth task is not as easy as it seems. On day 1 of People Matters Tech HR 2018, a discussion led by Shakun Khanna, Head of HCM Applications-Asia Pacific, Oracle, Chaitanya Peddi, Founder, Darwinbox, Kelly Palmer, Chief Learning and Talent Officer, Degreed, and Ester Martinez, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, People Matters threw light on making  an informed choice about what HR technology your business actually needs.

First thing first:

Kelly shares, “HR leaders or professionals first need to ask the right question before investing in any technology.”  She advised to first identify the problem the organization is trying to solve and what it is that HR leaders want to achieve at the end of all this. “What are your objectives – are you looking to enhance what you already do, are you looking to transform a part of your process into a new way of working?” are some questions that HR needs to ask before implementing any technology.

Culture & Capability:

Shakun Khanna shared that while before selecting the right technology, HR should address the problem “how is technology impacting the socio-emotional behavior of my employees? How can we leverage the technology to drive social-emotional behavior? How it will impact the culture of my company.” Additionally, he shares that before making technology decisions, know the capability of your team to harness the advantage of technology to its full potential.

Return on Investment:

Using technology allows you to trim off extra expenses. Still, that doesn’t mean you buy the first system you find. Take your time to explore various options. Also, consider using SaaS-based software that works on a subscription. A potential way around this is to use SaaS – software as a service, which is becoming an increasingly popular way to use HR technology.
