NIELIT launches Digital University to boost AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science skills with new centres & MoUs to bridge industry-academia gap.

India took another big step towards bridging the digital skill gap as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the NIELIT Digital University, a one-stop platform for future-ready education in AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Semiconductors, and allied fields.

Alongside the launch, the minister virtually inaugurated five new NIELIT Centres in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Lunglei (Mizoram), and Daman (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu).

The platform will provide flexible learning modes, virtual labs, and industry-driven programs, aiming to make high-quality tech education accessible to every corner of India.

Vaishnaw highlighted that India’s electronics manufacturing industry has already grown into a ₹13 lakh crore sector, and aligning the industry with academia is key to preparing a skilled workforce. “We must prepare a list of 500 industry partners. Wherever electronics and IT are used, our goal must be to train and prepare students for those demands,” he said.

In line with this vision, MoUs were signed between NIELIT and Microsoft, Zscaler, CCRYN, Dixon Tech, and Future Crime, strengthening collaboration with industry leaders.

The minister drew parallels with the Gati Shakti University, which is closely aligned with the transport sector, and envisioned NIELIT as a hub directly connected with industrial needs. Special emphasis was placed on the newly connected North-East, with Mizoram’s Lunglei centre becoming a symbol of inclusive digital growth.

With the Digital University and new centres, NIELIT is set to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s digital future, democratizing learning opportunities, and skilling the next generation for high-growth technology sectors.
