CEAT has hired a Chief Fitness Officer who will look after the mental and physical wellbeing of its employees.

As a step towards ensuring the physical and mental wellbeing of its employees, CEAT has hired Dr. Deepali Athawale as the Chief Fitness Officer, a newly created position.

Dr. Athawale will oversee the employee health through a holistic lens that would enable employees to adopt a healthy lifestyle and tackle other concerns or stressors through counselling.

“It is shocking to see 25 and 27-year-young employees suffer from blood pressure and diabetes--the reasons being stress due to travel and at work, combined with the diet they have,” said Milind Apte, Senior Vice President, HR, CEAT.

The first step towards a productive, efficient, and growth-focused organization is making sure that the employees are fit--both physically and mentally. Their full potential cannot be unlocked unless they are feeling positive and healthy, Apte added.

Dr. Athawale’s role would include being available for five days a month for consultations and provide a customized diet and nutrition plan for employees. Concerned employees can bring in their medical records and sign up for individual consultations with the Chief Fitness Officer as well. CEAT has also implemented employee-assistance programs through which employees can go in for counselling if they feel any type of physical or mental stress.

Other activities such as company-wide running programs, marathons, cycling, and trekking would also fall under the purview of the CFO.

“The idea is to embed the significance of health and nutrition into the minds of the workforce at all levels,” said Apte.
