Harvard professor Tarun Khanna has been appointed as an independent director of the InMobi Group.

Khanna’s recent appointment takes the number of directors on the Board to seven two of whom are independent.

“We are very excited to have Tarun Khanna join our Board,” said Naveen Tewari, Founder and CEO of InMobi Group. “The breadth and depth of his insights from academia and his expertise as an entrepreneur and board member across varied industries across the globe will stand us in good stead on this journey.”

Khanna has taught at the Harvard Business School for more than 20 years. He is the Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor and has pursued the study of entrepreneurship in emerging markets as a way towards the social and economic development of the country. Having completed his degrees from Princeton and Harvard, Khanna also teaches international business, business strategy and corporate governance to undergraduates, graduates, and senior executives.

Having been nominated as a Young Global Leader (under 40) by the World Economic Forum in 2007, he was also elected as a Fellow of the Academy of International Business in 2009. He was also named to chair the national commission by the Government of India to define the ecosystem of India’s entrepreneurial journey.

Apart from excelling at the Harvard Business School, he still continues to serve on the boards of non-profit organizations across the US and India. These include Washington-DC-based AES which aims to provide safe, sustainable and affordable energy to residents of more than 15 countries. His passion for entrepreneurs has led him to become a co-founder of several tech-based startups in the emerging markets across India, China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

As InMobi is poised at a critical juncture of their entrepreneurial journey, Tewari said that the various businesses including Unified Marketing Cloud, Glance and TruFactor are set to scale on a global level. It is precisely why they would greatly benefit from the guidance of an expert and insightful leader such as Khanna.
