BYJU's has announced the appointment of Mohandas Pai and Rajnish Kumar to its newly formed advisory council.

Pai, formerly the chief financial officer at Infosys, and Kumar, who served as the chairman of the State Bank of India, will be part of the advisory council. According to an official statement released by the EdTech organisation, the members of BYJU’s Advisory Council (BAC), along with CEO Byju Raveendran, will mentor and guide the organisation.

Notably, Pai is a co-founder of Aarin Capital, a private equity fund, and he was BYJU's one of the first investors. On the other hand, Kumar is currently heading the business at the fintech unicorn BharatPe.

Commenting on his appointment to the advisory council at BYJU’s Pai stated, “Byju and Divya are amongst the most impressive entrepreneurs I have worked with from the start-up ecosystem. Since our first contact more than a decade ago, they have built the largest EdTech company globally and amongst the largest start-ups in India. I see in them the drive to build the group into a successful corporation, and to ensure they deliver upon their mission in this sector as a category creator and market leader.”

Kumar added, “My discussions with Byju and Divya convinced me that they are dedicating sincere efforts to steer a course correction of the company’s governance structure,” he said adding, “With calibrated guidance from experienced advisors who have come together to support these dynamic entrepreneurs, the company will be able to move forward and continue to contribute to this very important field of education.”

In other news, BYJU's has welcomed back their former chief business officer, Arjun Mohan, as the head of the company's international initiatives. Previously, he was leading UpGrad, another prominent EdTech organisation that serves as a global online education platform.

BYJU's recently witnessed the resignation of key board members, including GV Ravishankar (Peak XV Partners), Russel Dreisenstock (Prosus), and Vivian Wu (Chan Zuckerberg Initiative). The EdTech organization has faced scrutiny and controversy for course mis-selling, corporate governance issues, and delays in FY22, which is expected to end in September 2023.
