State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the appointment of Abhijit Chakravorty as Managing Director and CEO of SBI Card. Chakravorty’s appointment to the post will come into effect from August 12. He will serve SBI Card as CEO for a period of two years.

The newly appointed CEO of SBI Card started his banking career as a probationary officer with SBI in 1988. He is currently serving the bank as a deputy managing director.

Chakravorty in his new role as SBI Card’s CEO has succeeded Rama Mohan Rao Amara, who will cease to be MD from August 11. Amara took charge as the Managing Director & CEO at SBI Card in January 2021.

Amara has been an integral part of the State Bank of India for almost three decades and has handled several key assignments, across India and abroad. In his previous role as the chief general manager, State Bank of India, Bhopal Circle, he spearheaded two states, namely, MP and Chhattisgarh. Prior to that, he served as the chief general manager, Financial Control at SBI Corporate Centre in Mumbai.
