Vedanta names Arun Misra as Executive Director

After Arun Misra's notable achievements at Vedanta subsidiary HZL, he has been appointed as the Executive Director, succeeding Sunil Duggal upon his retirement from the company.
Vedanta names Arun Misra as Executive Director

Vedanta, a mining organisation, has appointed Arun Misra as an Executive Director, succeeding Sunil Duggal effective from July 31, 2023, as announced in an official notification. 

The announcement in a letter dated July 21, 2023, stated details of the company's board meeting, where the board acknowledged the superannuation of Duggal and expressed regard for his valuable contributions to the organisation's success. 

In the announcement, the board also stated, that Misra's appointment as an Executive Director will come into effect from August 01, 2023, but it is subject to approval from the company shareholders. Until then, Misra will continue to serve Vedanta as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of their subsidiary - Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL).  Previously, he was CEO & Director of the subsidiary since August 2020. He has been overseeing the operations of Vedanta Zinc International in South Africa until June 2022. 

In his new role, Misra brings diverse experience of over 35 years and held key strategic positions across Industries including, Tata Steel, where he was serving as Vice President for their various divisions. 

Furthermore, he holds the distinction of being the first-ever Indian Chairperson to lead the International Zinc Association, along with serving as the Vice President of the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers. He won the CEO of the Year award for guiding Vedanta’s subsidiary in retaining a top position in CSR assessments within the mining and metal industry

Misra is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, where he graduated with a BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering. Additionally, he possesses Diplomas in Mining and Beneficiation from the University of New South Wales Sydney, and General Management from CEDEP, France. His expertise extends to various quality management models, such as TQM, Six Sigma, TPM, and the Malcolm Baldridge Model, reflecting his extensive knowledge in this field.
