Amazon India promotes Amit Agarwal as Senior VP

Amazon.com Inc. has promoted its current country manager and Vice President, Amit Agarwal to the position of Senior Vice- President, thereby associating him with a small team globally. 

Amit Agarwal who was already inducted into S-team (senior –leadership team) in 2016 has bagged promotion within one year. Under it, he was reporting directly to Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos. 

He will continue to head India operations as senior vice-president. Amit has risen to company ranks steadfastly over the past 18 years. 

In May last year, Amazon India roped in Manish Tiwary as the Vice President of Category Management to strengthen its reach in its India business. Tiwary replaced Samir Kumar, vice-president of category management at Amazon India, who was moving back to Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, US. 

Amazon entered Indian e-commerce market quite late in June 2013 and gave good competition to existing thriving online retailers including Flipkart (2007) and another rival Snapdeal (2010). 

In terms of sales and operations, in 2016, Amazon India raced ahead Snapdeal and Flipkart, making its presence felt in the market.
