AirAsia India has named Ankur Garg as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). As CCO, Garg will be managing day-to-day commercial operations of AirAsia India, including network and revenue management, marketing & sales and cargo.

He was earlier the Vice-president for revenue management, ancillary revenue and distribution for India's largest airline IndiGo, a position he had quit a few weeks back.

The airline said in a statement, “Ankur Garg takes over from Mr Sanjay Kumar, AirAsia India's Chief Operation Officer (COO)...Garg will report to Sunil Bhaskaran, MD and CEO, AirAsia India.”

Garg takes over the role of CCO from Sanjay Kumar, who stepped down earlier this month citing personal reasons. His resignation came exactly after a year he joined the airline.

Tata Sons owns 51% stake in AirAsia India, while the Malaysian company AirAsia Berhad holds 49%. The aviation company which started operations in June 2014, plans to expand its India operations by increasing its fleet size to 29 aircraft by the end of this month. Garg’s appointment thus comes at a significant juncture in the company’s trajectory as it plans an expansion spree in the country.
