Utility vehicles maker Ashok Leyland's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vipin Sondhi has resigned from his position in order to devote more time to take care of certain personal and family commitments. He would step down from his position on December 31.

Chairman Dheeraj Hinduja, who had held this position in the intervening period between previous top executive Vinod Dasari’s exit and Sondhi’s appointment, will again step into an executive role.

The company statement said that Sondhi “has expressed his intention to devote more time to take care of certain personal and family commitments in the post-COVID pandemic situation, that require his extended presence in New Delhi."

The Hinduja-Group flagship company’s board would meet shortly to decide on the next appointment.

Sodhi was appointed the CEO and MD  of the utility vehicle manufacturer for a period of five years in December 2019. He succeeded Vinod Dasari who led the truck maker for about 14 years as its COO and subsequently the CEO. Sondhi's appointment came almost a year after Dasari's resignation.

Before this, Sondhi was the MD and chief executive of the Indian arm of construction equipment manufacturer JCB. His exit comes at a time when the CV maker is still facing pressure due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
