KPMG's Unmesh Pawar steps down as Partner & Head of People

Pawar’s next move remains unknown, but industry sources indicate he would most likely lead a transformative people agenda.
KPMG's Unmesh Pawar steps down as Partner & Head of People

Partner and Head of People, Performance and Culture, Unmesh Pawar has decided to step down from his role, effective from March 2021. In this role, Unmesh was leading KPMG India’s human resources function which comprises of talent management and strategy, driving the people culture and professional development to further KPMG in India’s operations and growth. 

According to a media report, internal communication to the firm, informing of the development, stated that while “he steps down as the Head of People, he will continue to support critical projects till he leaves the firm”. 

Pawar’s next move remains unknown, but industry sources indicate he would most likely lead a transformative people agenda. 

The internal memo further stated that during his tenure with KPMG, “Pawar has successfully led a transformative people agenda, done an excellent job of elevating its talent brand in the marketplace building pride and inclusion in the Firm. He has played an important role in the progressive evolution and future readiness of the firm while strengthening the HR function and building an outstanding team. Many of the outstanding achievements of the team have been recognized through several prestigious industry awards and are a testimony of Unmesh’ s leadership.”

Prior to his stint at KPMG, Pawar was leading talent management at Accenture India. He exited the company as its Global Managing Director for Human Resources - Products Operating Group after spending 17 years in various HR leadership roles. His earlier experiences (1994 and 2001) were with firms such as Mastek and Tata Share Registry.
