Twitter India head Taranjeet Singh quits, announces resignation in a tweet
Taranjeet Singh, who built the India business for Twitter, has stepped down from his position as Country Director yesterday. He announced his resignation via a tweet on the microblogging website. He didn’t mention the reason for his exit.
Taranjeet tweeted, “Hello everyone, after 4 amazing years, I have decided to move on from @TwitterIndia - from being one of the first @Twitter employees in #India, to building up the sales team from the ground up, to leading our expansion and investments as the India Country Director #AmazingRide.”
Meanwhile, the company’s Twitter's global head of revenue strategy and operations Balaji Krish is being flown in from the US to be interim country lead as Taranjeet moves out of the position over the next month.
Taranjeet headed Twitter India for close to four years working with brands and agencies to increase their commercial opportunities and leading overall Twitter operations in India. During the period, he helped double the user base in India for the micro blogging platform to nearly 30 million users. During his career, he also saw the launch of "Twitter Lite", a more accessible, faster and affordable way to get real-time information.
Singh has over 20 years of sales and business development experience. Prior to joining Twitter, Singh spend close to a decade with BBC as head of advertising and Sales Director of South Asia.
"I'm proud to say that @TwitterIndia is in a strong position and will continue to grow stronger in the years to come. I want to thank all our partners, brands and agencies for their continued belief, trust and support in making my journey so incredible at Twitter #Grateful," Singh said in his tweet.
