IT services major TCS is looking to bring back its employees to office in December this year or early next year. However these plans will materialize only if there’s no third wave of the pandemic.

A TCS spokesperson stated, “Our priority is to get over 5 lakh people and their dependents vaccinated. Three months back, we had launched one of the biggest corporate vaccination drives in over 125 cities across India, for our associates and their dependents. Over 90% of our workforce and their families have already received the first dose. We aim to complete their second dose soon.”

The plan is to ask some of its associates to return to offices initially before it makes a switch to the 25/25 model that it had announced in April 2020. As per this model, by 2025, TCS will ask a vast majority of 75% of its 5 lakh employees globally to work from home. Thus the 25/25 will require far less office space than occupied today.

However, this will be done  flexibly, in phases, and will depend on respective team leaders.

The 25/25 model was announced after TCS quickly moved 90% of its employees post-lockdown to an operating model it calls Secure Borderless Work Spaces (SBWS). As the firm begins with its plans of getting a fraction of its people back to office and then gradually transition to the 25/25 model, it will be interesting to see what precedent it sets for the IT industry in general.
