Internships to help women restart their careers: Internshala

In what would seem like a strategic move, Internshala is currently running a campaign that targets women and helps them restart their career through taking internships.

The campaign ‘Internship for Women’ is based on the insight that about 65-70% of the women who take a career break do not return to work. To fix the situation, Internshala has proposed a solution wherein women who have taken a career break and the ones that are very well educated but have yet to kick-start their careers can take up internships through the online portal.

Also, since there are work from home and part-time work options available, women can balance their personal and professional lives. Currently, there are around 4000 internship positions available for women who wish to apply through the portal.

Sarvesh Agarwal, founder and CEO of Internshala stated in a media report, “Through this campaign, we want to spread the message that internships are a powerful solution for women to build their career.”

But launching a career for women through an internship is not new. Organizations, especially the big ones in the past have developed their own internship programs to help women to restart their professional lives. Amazon had launched ‘Rekindle’ with the same purpose, while ‘IntuitAgain’ is an initiative that provides the women technologists on break an opportunity to create a career with Intuit. Similar programs that various organizations offer professional opportunities for women in the form of internships are Paypal’s Recharge and SAP’s Stay in Touch.

However, a dedicated campaign for women who want to get back to work by an internship portal is new in India. Through this, Internshala aims to help 4000 women restart their careers by March 2018.
