State-run power giant NTPC announced a special recruitment drive for women executives on the eve of women’s day in order to strengthen women power in India’s largest power generation company.

A company statement said, “On Women’s Day, NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated power company announces plans for recruiting only women executives as a special recruitment drive across its areas of operations.”

The application fee at the time of recruitment is completely waived for women employees. Such a recruitment drive will further enhance gender diversity as a parameter for NTPC. NTPC has been working at improving its gender ratio wherever possible. In that direction, to support the women workforce, NTPC adheres to policies like Child Care Leave with Pay, Maternity Leave, Sabbatical leave and NTPC Special Child Care Leave on Adoption of a Child/Delivering Child through Surrogacy, it said.

On a similar note, ONGC hired around 500 women in its last five recruitment drives. As per ONGC Director (HR) Alka Mittal, some 80% of these 500 women recruited are from technical streams like drilling, production, geology, and geophysics, etc. Mittal herself is the first woman director on the ONGC board. The energy firm is on a hiring spree, adding about 100 women to hard-core technical streams for every batch of appointments.

While the push towards diversity does not end at hiring alone, but the conscious effort to bring in more women in technical streams is a welcome step towards fostering diversity and inclusion.
