TechMahindra and Wipro have now joined the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, thus joining the ranks of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories which continues to remain on the list for the third year in a row.

This index includes about 325 companies across 50 sectors based in 42 countries and regions. 2020 is the first year that three Indian companies have been included in this global index.

“For us, diversity of every kind is a priority--whether it is diversity of nationality, age, gender, thoughts, or abilities, and our constant endeavor is to build a workplace that is internationally diverse,” said Harshvendra Soin, Chief People Officer, TechMahindra, while noting that providing equal opportunities for every employee in the organization is the bedrock of an inclusive ecosystem.

While gender diversity is one aspect of the diversity and inclusion drive at Wipro, Abidali Z. Neemuchwala, CEO and Managing Director, Wipro, said, “Inclusion at Wipro is about integrating diversity effortlessly and encouraging all to be their authentic selves. This provides us with an opportunity to realize our true potential at work and beyond.”

The GEI measures the financial performance of public companies that are committed to supporting gender equality through their policy development efforts, representation in the workforce, and transparency. It monitors gender equality across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand. As Peter T. Grauer, Chairman, Bloomberg, noted, a dedicated and efficient process of disclosure of company statistics and practices is a crucial step towards supporting global gender equality.

Having placed on the index for a third time in a row, GV Prasad, Co-chairman & MD, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, added that the company has progressed towards their vision of building an inclusive and diverse workforce and are planning to accelerate the growth further.

The index is arrived at by taking a comprehensive look at the companies’ investment in workplace gender equality and the communities outside of the workplace where they operate. In order to be included in this index the market cap of the companies must be around $1 Bn.
