Even though the interest in delivery jobs remains higher than the number of roles available, the gap between the interest-level in such roles and the availability of these jobs has narrowed in the last year, especially as India approaches the festival season of the year.

When it comes to the metro cities, the interest in delivery jobs has considerably reduced with Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad together occupying a national share of 19 percent of all job posts for delivery roles. From September 2018 to August 2019, the metro cities held about 27 percent of all the postings. The eight percent drop shows that these jobs have shifted to other cities.

Even though the jobs have moved to other cities in the country, the average monthly salary has remained relatively consistent with the monthly average salary at Rs. 15,531 between September 2018 and August 2019 as opposed to the monthly average salary of Rs. 15, 772 between October 2017 and September 2018.

“With the emergence of several internet service companies that cater to various consumer demands--be it food ordering, online shopping or simply delivering goods from one place to another--job opportunities for delivery roles have emerged in many markets,” said Sashi kUmar, Managing Director, Indeed India. “Even as metro cities see a decline in job seeker interest as well as availability of job openings for delivery roles, with more companies finding greater visibility and achieving more penetration in tier II and III markets, it follows that the requirement and availability of these job roles too has shifted to these newer markets.”
