Dinesh Malkani, the Cisco India and SAARC President has resigned from the company to take on a new role at a startup, as per a news agency report, the details of the new position couldn’t be ascertained. He had joined Cisco in 2010 to lead the collaboration technologies team in Asia Pacific, Japan and China.

This comes at a time when Cisco is looking to delve deep in the digitization projects in India and also engaged with 50 projects while working with 6 states on various tech initiatives. Malkani is set to end his tenure by July 31, but will continue to be associated with the company till the end of September. 

Cisco confirmed the development to a news agency, and said, “Dinesh has played a key role in driving our growth, talent and digital transformation initiatives in India... This is a perfect time for a new leader to build on that foundation," Cisco Asia-Pacific and Japan President Irving Tan.

Cisco continues to execute on its long-term strategic focus on India through its investments in innovation, skills development and digital transformation, he added.

Sources said the company has already conducted an internal and external search for Malkanis replacement and will make an announcement in the next two weeks.

Cisco has recently commenced manufacturing operations in Pune and eventually plans to scale it up to make the country an export hub. Besides, it has committed investments of over USD 100 million in 2016. Of this, USD 40 million was allocated for funding early-stage and growth-stage companies in areas like Internet of Things (IoT), security and smart cities. Rest of the funds will go towards opening six new innovation labs and as many centres of excellence (CoE) and skill development. 

As per Cisco's leadership profile of Dinesh, he has over 23 years of leadership experience in the technology industry. Dinesh has deep expertise in working closely and strategically with a range of customers, and his passion for customer success is the foundation of the culture for his organization. His experience working in R&D, systems engineering and sales has greatly contributed to the successful leadership positions in his earlier roles, including those as Country Manager in China and Korea.

In 2010, Dinesh joined Cisco to lead the collaboration technologies team in APJC and helped drive it to a market leader position. In his career with Cisco, Dinesh has held a variety of leadership positions across the Enterprise, Public Sector and Service Provider businesses. He has played a key role in driving strategic initiatives that are helping customers embrace digitisation and achieve higher levels of innovation and productivity through technology.

Outside of Cisco, Dinesh is a member of the Executive Council of NASSCOM and Co-Chair of the CII National Committee on Telecom & Broadband. Dinesh is also an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), a platform that enables networking with C-level peers. A strong believer in corporate social responsibility, Dinesh serves on the board of the Parikrma Humanity Foundation, an NGO that provides quality education to marginalized children in India.

Dinesh holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering with an executive MBA from the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
