GoAir has appointed Sanjiv Kapoor as Adviser. Sanjiv – who comes with over two decades of experience with airlines in Asia, Europe, and the US as an investment adviser, portfolio manager, and management consultant – will advise GoAir on important business and government matters.

Commenting on his appointment, Vinay Dube, Chief Executive Officer, GoAir stated, “I welcome Sanjiv to the ever-growing GoAir family. His strong domain knowledge and deep expertise in the aviation sector will help GoAir in multiple ways.”

Prior to GoAir, Sanjiv steered Vistara as its Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer and played a pivotal role in its growth from nine aircraft and 40 flights to 36 aircraft and 200 flights a day. Likewise, Sanjiv in his earlier stint with SpiceJet, led the airline through its unprecedented turnaround as its Chief Operating Officer, spearheading the airline through a period of record-high oil prices and a cash crunch, to cultural and operational transformation, ownership change, and profitability within 15 months. In addition, he has worked with companies such as Northwest Airlines, Bain and Company, Temasek Holdings (Singapore), and the Boston Consulting Group, among others.

 Sanjiv is an alumnus of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, Hanover. His appointment comes at a critical time as GoAir along with the entire aviation sector is reeling under the impact of the Coronavirus epidemic. The airline has temporarily suspended its international operations till 15 April, as a result of travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 outbreak. As per a media report, some staff from every department at the airline have been asked to go for as long a month's leave.

Similarly, rival Indigo has announced pay cuts as the entire aviation sector experiences a huge setback due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Among the many employees who will experience salary cuts is also IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta, who will himself take a 25 percent cut in salary. Senior vice presidents and above are taking a 20 percent pay cut while vice presidents and cockpit crew are taking a 15 percent pay cut.
