Mahindra Electric names new MD

Mahindra Electric, the electric vehicle division of Mahindra & Mahindra has elevated Mahesh Babu as Managing Director of the company. The appointment was approved by the board of directors in a board meeting scheduled on May 6th, 2020.

Mahesh, who is currently the CEO, will assume the role of MD and CEO from May 7th, 2020. He has played a key role in the production version of MESMA 350 EV platform and in-house development of electric three-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Mahesh has been with the Mahindra Group for over 20 years and has worked in the design and development of engine and vehicle platforms from frugal 3-wheelers to flagship models. In his tenure as CEO, Mahindra Electric has built key partnerships with Uber, Zoomcar, LG Chem, Blu Smart, Lithium Urban Technology, and Auroville.

An alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University, Mahesh has actively participated in a number of state and national level EV policy discussions alongside the government such as the champions of change initiative organized by NITI Aayog. He has worked closely with industry bodies and associations to spread awareness of electric mobility and developments in the field.

In addition, he is also a recipient of the Mahindra Group Innovation Award twice, first for Scorpio SUV turbocharged engine development and later for the development of the first Indian Common Rail SUV – Scorpio CRDe. In elevating him to the MD position, it is this vast experience the company is aiming to leverage as it prepares for the adoption of electric vehicles in times to come with the focus of the government policy towards EV, backed up by the entire ecosystem of cleantech.
