India’s only electric car company, Mahindra Reva’s CEO Arvind Mathew has quit, according to a report by an automobile magazine. It is expected that the transition will take a “couple of months” and that he may take up a new role in the Mahindra Group. Mahesh Babu, the company’s Chief Operating Officer is expected to fill up Mathew’s post.

When Mathew joined the company last year, he replaced Chetan Mani, the company’s founder, and head. He joined Mahindra from Tata Advanced Materials Limited where he was the CEO. Prior to that he was the President of Nacelle Division at Suzlon Energy and had worked with Ford India for over two decades. He is a post graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan where he also earned a Master of Business Administration.

During Mathew’s term at the company, the sales of the electric vehicle went up by 37. 5 percent when compared to the previous financial year. In June this year, a zero emissions sedan called e-Verito priced at Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)  was launched by the company across key cities like Nagpur, Jaipur, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata.
