Star Cement Ltd, a subsidiary of Kolkata-based Century Plyboards (India) Ltd, has named Sudipto Mandal, as its new Vice President and CHRO. His appointment is effective from 1st February and he will be reporting to the CEO Sanjay Kumar Gupta.

Speaking to People Matters, Sudipto stated, “As CHRO, responsibility includes heading the entire Human Resources, IR and Admin function of Star Cement Ltd, a listed company and part of a billion-dollar conglomerate - Century Plyboard (I) Ltd. I will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategy towards building a future-ready organization and in maintaining its market leadership in the region.”

Sudipto will be leading an HR team of about 40 for overall employee strength of 3,000 across 3 plants, corporate and branch offices. He will be providing thought leadership, support, and counsel to senior leadership in building organizational and talent capability, culture building and business transformation.”

Prior to this, Sudipto Mandal worked as Group HR Head- India at Carl ZEISS India Pvt. Ltd, responsible for developing and implementing the Human Resource strategy to drive the growth of Carl ZEISS. Before this, Mandal was the General Manager - Business HR at Spencer’s Retail Ltd.

He was also part of the HR Leadership Team at Asian Paints and was a key member of the cross-functional Strategic Initiative project team for the company to drive strategic direction for Decorative Business Unit and Customer Service Management initiatives.

Mandal, an alumnus of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, comes with over 21 years of experience in the HR industry, which encompasses the entire gamut core functional HR and techno-functional Oracle HRMS consultancy.  He also has experience across Manufacturing, IT/ITES, FMCG (paint) and Retail, in both plant and corporate offices. It is this experience that Star Cement, the largest cement manufacturer in northeast India, will be hoping to leverage as it looks forward to becoming a future-ready organization.
