Google to enter India’s job search game with Kormo
Google is planning to enter India’s entry-level job search arena with its Kormo app.
Kormo is an app that is designed to connect job seekers with businesses that are looking to recruit. It allows job seekers to maintain a digital resume. Previously, Kormo was launched in Bangladesh in 2018 in order to enable job seekers in Dhaka to find the right job opportunities.
The NBU markets or Next Billion Users are set to come from pockets of Bangladesh, India, and other countries as well.
“Since we launched Kormo in Bangladesh in 2018 and in Indonesia this year, we’ve connected over 50,000 job seekers to jobs from hundreds of employers who use Kormo for their hiring needs, specifically entry level jobs,” said Bickey Russell, Project Lead of Google’s Next Billion Users initiative, as reported by The Economic Times.
Most recently, other companies such as Quikr and OLX have also entered the entry-level job search market, having acquired job sites such as Babajob and Aaasanjobs. Kormo would not be the only player in the market. Already established sites such as Quess Corp and Saral Rozgar, by Tech Mahindra are also occupying a considerable part of the market share.
Kormo happens to be one of the activities of Google’s Area 120 program which acts as an incubator for new ideas within the internet giant.
“Finding employment is a real need across different markets,” Russell said. “We’re looking to bring the same service to countries like India.”
