The action follows a formal complaint by an employee union, highlighting the plight of experienced professionals left in limbo amid a lack of communication.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s leading IT giants, has been summoned by the Ministry of Labour and Employment following a formal complaint about delays in onboarding over 600 experienced lateral hires.

The summons comes in response to a complaint filed by Pune-based IT employee union, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). The union alleged that TCS has indefinitely delayed the joining of these professionals, causing uncertainty and distress among the affected candidates.

According to documents accessed by ETHR, the Ministry has issued a letter to the Chairman and Managing Director of TCS, directing them to appear for a joint discussion on the matter on August 1, 2025. The company may also send an authorised representative—no lower in rank than a Head of Department—who is well-versed in the issue and empowered to make decisions.

“Written submissions, if any, in this regard may be submitted in advance to this office, with copies endorsed to all concerned,” the letter stated. This move marks a significant intervention by the government in response to concerns over hiring practices in the IT sector, as companies adjust their workforce strategies amid a shifting global economic landscape.
