It seems the Cupertino, California-based tech giant, Apple Inc. is on a hiring spree. The company has recently hired 3,500 people for their development center in Hyderabad and according to a senior Telangana government official, the company is expected to take the number to 5,000.

Apple set up the development center in Hyderabad last year in May that focuses on the development of Maps for its products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. The firm had then said that the investment in the facility will accelerate Maps development and will create up to 4,000 jobs. The company did not disclose the amount it plans to invest in the facility.

The Indian government rejected the company's plan to import and sell cheaper refurbished iPhones to court price-conscious Indian consumers as it could lead to electronic waste dumping in the country. Moreover, it could have disrupted the government’s Make in India initiative that encourages local manufacturing.

Therefore, the Telangana government invited Apple to set up a manufacturing plant and offered land to the company to set up its campus in Hyderabad.
