IT firm HCL Technologies is looking to augment the workforce at its Lucknow facility by 50 percent by the end of the next financial year 2020-21. From the current headcount of 4,000, the company plans to add 2,000 employees to cater to its business expansion roadmap, as per a media report.
HCL Technologies Corporate Vice President Sanjay Gupta told Business Standard, “In fact, our employee count is expected to hit 4,500 by the end of March 2020 from the current strength of 4,000 professionals.”
Sanjay further revealed that the firm is currently serving 103 global clients from the Lucknow center, of which nearly 70 percent are based in the US. More projects are in the pipeline, he added.
The campus which is the largest HCL campus in North India started operations in 2016. So far, the IT major has made investments to the tune of Rs 500 crore in HCL Lucknow and more funds would be invested as and when required, as per Sanjay.
The center is a part of HCL’s strategic vision to expand and create opportunities in smaller cities across India. The center also comprises the Arya Bhatt Training Centre to train and cross-train 500 individuals simultaneously. A second training center with an additional capacity of training 500 people is also expected to start operations soon. Under this very vision to bring global opportunities to Tier-II cities, beyond the large metropolises in the country, the IT major had signed a pact with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company for expansion of its MIHAN campus in Nagpur which is expected to create more than 8,000 jobs for locals last year.
