Suresh Prabhu asks Tamil Nadu to devise a startup policy to boost jobs
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu has asked the Tamil Nadu government to release a start-up policy to boost job creation.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, Suresh Prabhu said the Centre would launch a programme especially for Tamil Nadu. “The startup policy would be a good thing because they [the startups] can create new jobs and provide innovation opportunities for youngsters.”
The minister added that there were discussions with the chief minister to have another airport in Chennai to provide regional connectivity. Speaking on the low private and public investments so far, Prabhu said that the capacity utilization across industries was going up, and private and public investment is bound to go up.
The development comes in the same month as another state pushes up the ante on startups. Recently, it was reported that the Delhi government is taking steps to draft a startup policy to create more jobs and encourage and the growth of entrepreneurship in the national capital.
As per reports, the first draft of the policy was presented at a meeting organized by Delhi`s Industries Department early this month.
The job creation card is one of the most important planks which were the basis of the Startup India movement launched in 2016. PM Modi had stated at its launch that the nation is nurturing its youngsters to be job creators and not job seekers. The government has set an ambitious target of creating 1.8 Mn jobs by 2020 under the Startup India action plan.
