13 lakh candidates trained under PMKVY in sixteen months

13 lakh candidates trained under PMKVY in sixteen months

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is the flagship scheme of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The aim of the scheme is to skill 20 crore people by 2020. In the nearly sixteen months of the launch of the program, as per the media report, more than 13 lakh candidate have been trained under the scheme.

Also, the scheme has resulted in placements of 3,16,671 candidates till the month of February 2018. The STT (which is the Short Term Training) program has had a placement rate of 55%, and of the 13 lakh candidates which have been trained 9 lakh have been certified by till February 2018.

The placements under the scheme fall into two categories: wage and self-employment. Approximately, 76% of the employees have been placed under the wage category and 24% have been placed under the self-employment one. 

The STT program which is aimed at benefiting youth who are either school/college dropouts or unemployed comprises of orientation in soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy, and encompasses 200-1000 hours of training. The other component which of the PMKVY scheme, which is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) comprises of 12-80 hours of learning. Till date, 4.5 lakh candidates have been certified under this component.
