China's ByteDance-owned short video-sharing platform TikTok has sacked its India employees. According to the latest development, the Chinese app has given the pink slip to all its 40 employees.

"We have taken the decision to close our India remote sales support hub, which was put in place at the end of 2020 to provide support to our global and regional sales teams. We greatly appreciate these employees and their impact on our company, and will ensure they are supported at this difficult time," said TikTok spokesperson.

In June 2020, India banned 59 mobile apps including TikTok over national security reasons, citing the apps to be threats to “national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India.” Before getting banned, TikTok had the second largest user base in India.

Despite a ban, the company had its office in India and people employed with TikTok worked mostly for the Brazil and Dubai markets.

Earlier in 2021, Bytedance slashed jobs in India. The Chinese firm decided to let go over two-thirds of employees in India.
